Forget cave tours where you are just part of a large group. The country charm of the Wee Jasper Valley continues beneath the surface as you begin your tour of Carey's Cave. Don't be put off if your thoughts of caves involve descending deep into the earth, with all the steps that would involve. Carey's Cave penetrates roughly in a horizontal manner into the side of a hill so even people with mobility problems can appreciate the charms of the caves.
The cave is well lit throughout by electric lights and the guides are well versed in both the folklore and science of the caves. Number one priority of the Carey's Cave guides is that you have a good time, irrespective of child, adult or non-English speaker. Everyone is catered for and everyone comes away having experienced something that goes beyond a simple cave inspection.
If you are wondering whether or not to come on a tour,
here is some information which may assist in making your decision.
How long does a Tour take?
Approximately 1 hour.
What is the cost?
Adult - $11
Child(5-15) - $6.60
Family(2A,2C) - $28.60
These prices are valid as of 3rd March 2008...
Please Note: There are no EFTPOS or Credit Card facilities available.
How far is it to the Cave?
The Cave entrance is about 50 metres up the path from the parking area.
How big is the Carey's Cave system?
There is a total of seven beautiful chambers of Crystal formations which are visited on tours.
Is there only one tour?
We offer two tours which cover different areas of the Carey's Cave system. The decision on which tour we do, depends on group numbers and personal preferences.
Are there many steps or ladders?
There are 30 steps down into Carey's Cave. After this, most of the pathways are fairly level with occasional steps.
Is it narrow? Will I feel claustrophobic?
Some people feel uncomfortable about going down the entrance steps, however the chambers are quite spacious. If you do enter on a tour and decide immediately that you are not comfortable, the guide will take you out again.
What is the Cave temperature?
15C - 17C (Slight seasonal variation).
Is it suitable for my 2 year old child or 90 year old granny?
The paths and steps are quite easy for anyone who is reasonably mobile. Babies may be carried in a front harness but not in a backpack to avoid damage to the Cave (or baby!).
Can I take my dog/cat/pet goldfish with me?
Animals are not permitted in Carey's Cave. The only exception is a
certified Guide Dog (German Shepherd, Labrador, etc.!)
Can I take photographs?
Photography is permitted in Carey's Cave.
