The cave environment is a superb space acoustically.  As the walls are naturally sculpted into
different forms there is no echo: instead the sound is very live with natural reverb.
This is also enhanced by the crystal formations that have grown in the space
and the natural sediment floors help to give a warmth to the sound.

Apart from our Crystal Clear concerts that are held in the cave,
we encourage any singers or musicians to take advantage of the opportunity to try out the acoustics while on a cave tour.  So if you have hit that point in your music where you feel confident to do so, bring your instrument with you (although bagpipes and piano accordians tend to be somewhat loud in the space).

For singers, one of the joys is to listen to yourself and tune your voice as you sing: the clarity is exceptional. It is common for small children to begin singing very softly but quickly gain
confidence and volume as they hear themselves.

We have had choirs book a special tour time to come and sing, and have resulted in great workshop experiences.  Consider,
for example, how well you must listen to each other if you are singing
in the dark with no visual cues!

CRYSTAL CLEAR CONCERTS
We have held a number of concerts in the cave and hope to make them a regular feature.

UNDERGROUND THEATRE
We staged a performance of Aeschylus' Greek tragedy Agamemnon in June.
This was presented by We Three Productions.

I guess if you are reading this page you have an interest in music
so here are some music links that have nothing to do with caves
but may be of interest to you!
